Abstract

The original diary of Major S. V. Shipman, 1st Wisconsin Cavalry Regiment, describing cases before a court martial panel on which he served; the march through Alabama and Georgia with accounts of burning, plundering, and drunkenness among the men; and his assignment at the close of the war to collect Confederate government records and public building plans and deliver them to Washington, D.C. A typewritten copy of the diary is included.
